چکیده
Stepped spillways can be defined as human-made hydraulic structures constructed to monitor and control flow release attain high energy dissipation. Such are commonly used in embankment dams; however, it is important that a sufficient chute length provided develop the required aerated flow; point at which this occurs known inception point. This paper focusses on influence of non-uniform geometry gabion-stepped (GSS) A numerical investigation using Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) approach with software NEWFLUME was adopted examine over GSS. The location suggested by models compared predicated existing formulae available literature. data from model then generate two novel empirical equations. equations were based nonlinear multiple regression (NMR) evolutionary polynomial (EPR) approaches deliver improved results for spillways. developed EPR correlation, respectively, scored R2 (determination coefficient) MAE (mean absolute error) values 0.93 1.66 training 0.83 2.7 testing data. In NMR approach, reduced value 0.91 obtained. outcomes study revealed proposed able capture characteristics GSS accurately. Additionally, current yielded better predictions Consequently, findings improve future design

متن کاملExperimental Study of Turbulence Manipulation in Stepped Spillways. Implications on Flow Resistance in Skimming Flows
Current expertise in air-water turbulent flows on stepped chutes is limited to laboratory experiments at low to moderate Reynolds numbers on flat horizontal steps. In this study, highly turbulent air-water flows skimming down a large-size stepped chute were systematically investigated with a 22o slope. Turbulence manipulation was conducted using vanes or longitudinal ribs to enhance interaction...
متن کاملAir Entrainment and Pressure Development in Skimming Flow on an Abrupt Slope Change on Stepped Spillways
Numerous stepped spillways were built to date, namely on RCC gravity dams or on valley flanks besides embankment or rockfill dams, while some others are currently under design or construction. In some cases, slope changes may be required on stepped chutes, due to the topography, leading to reduced excavation and related economic benefits. A quite limited number of stepped spillways have been bu...
متن کاملAir Entrainment and Energy Dissipation on Gabion Stepped Weirs
In the last three decades the design of stepped spillways regained some interest because of their suitability with new construction methods including gabion placement. In this study, the hydraulic performances of gabion stepped weirs were investigated experimentally in terms of the air-water flow properties and energy dissipation rate. A physical study was performed in a relatively large size f...
